BRINSMEAD UPRIGHT
A RARE GEM
This piano came to us by chance, and we decided at over 110 years old, it still had plenty of life left in it. We've left the case work original as it's been very well looked after its whole life, but sadly the ivory keytops had suffered too much damage to save, so we've recovered the keyboard in modern acrylic.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Piano Restoration
Restoration work comprises of three main parts. The most obvious part that draws peoples first attention, is of course the case work (polishing). A great example of which is demonstrated in the photo above. A complete case job would usually average close to 100 hours of work, meaning the piano has been pulled apart into every piece possible so that all parts can be stripped back to bare wood, all loose veneer repaired, holes filled up, stained and finished with as many shots of lacquer as needed, depending on the type of finish required.
The second main part is the stringing. We would normally remove the frame for the purpose of refinishing it, along with chrome plating any pressure bars, duplex bars, bolts etc, and polish any brass components before it's ready to be restrung.

The third main section is the pianos action and keyboard. This is all the small intricate work for all of the moving components that make it play.

When deciding how far you're going to go with a particular restoration, these are the three categories of work that your quote will be split into, as they are not co-dependant on each other; i.e. all three can be done independently of each other, and there is no reason why all three must be done at once.
